Working on computer can make your back and shoulders weak: Do you know?
People who work for long hours on computers are suffering from back and shoulder pain. I.P.S states that “In an IT hub in gurgoan, this problem is getting more severe among the people. So many people are suffering from shoulder and backache”. Dr. Oberoi, a senior orthopedic said that “around two years back, we have approx around 20 to 30 patients a month, but now the number has exceeded up to 300. Most of them are computer professionals and used the computer for more than three to four hours a day”. Medical results have found that it starts with shoulder pain and go ahead to severe backache
Doctors at the Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital found that 76 per cent of computer professionals in Delhi have “musculoskeletal problems”. Longer periods of work in front of a computer can cause shoulder and back problems. Even they can also create strain to the eyes and damage of the hand and wrists. This is because of the wrong sitting posture and over exposed to computer display. Generally the age groups 30 to 40 are the worst sufferers.
In our whole body, the above part of the wrist and the rest is stagnant. They punch keyboards or hold the mouse for elongated hours. The problem starts from here and then goes back to the shoulder and finally they build up our back so weak. As a result, sometimes the person can’t even move his or her hands because of pain. Doctors assumed that as the NCR region is an IT hub, the problem is quite high and growing. By sitting in right posture, regular exercise and good nutrition health can help the people to avoid the problems.

That is so true. Our posture suffers from trying to compensate for the way most computers are set up. The average computer desk is not really well-designed either. We really should look into ergonomically designed desks if we have to work at a computer for extended periods.
