osteoporosisOsteoporosis is a disease that thins and weakens the bones to the level that they break off easily. It is called a silent disease because there are no symptoms of the disease. The first sign of this disease can be a fracture due to a silly reason or getting a little shorter. There is not any age limit for osteoporosis to happen but all most half o the women develop this disease until the age of 65.

There are certain risk factors that are associated with this disease. Some of them cannot be changed. These are mentioned below:

  • Sex: women are likely to develop this disease more as compared to men.
  • Age: the longer you live the greater chances you have of developing osteoporosis.
  • Family history: if you have a family history then you are very likely to develop this disease.
  • Body Size: women who are thin and small have more chances of developing osteoporosis.
  • Ethnicity: White and Asian women are at grater risk for this disease.

Some of the risk factors can be controlled. These are:

  • Diet: have a diet that is full of calcium and vitamin D. this diet will help you to have strong bones.
  • Bone strengthening activity: do some exercises that will help you to have strong bones.
  • Smoking: smoking lowers the level of estrogen in the body. So, quit smoking.
