In a small study, old adults who drank a cup of blueberry juice a day simply improve their learning scores and memory task by almost 20 percent. Studies in animals have linked that the blueberries with brain function, indicated that blueberries might have considered being a super foods.

In the animal studies, older individuals who eat blueberry simply extract and improve their performance on memory tasks. Scientists have credited blueberries to be very impressive brain boosting effects on a type of antioxidant called anthocyanins. All these molecules belong to a larger group called poly phenols that come in thousands of varieties.

Polyphenols appear in almost all the fruits and vegetables and have been shown to lessen the risk of cancers and heart disease. In animals who consumed lots of blueberries, scientists have covered anthocyanins in the brain structures that are known to be mixed up in memory where the molecules appear to work magically. With the help of neurons, they communicate with each other by facilitating memory processing.

Anthocyanins make brain cells more elastic in the stage of stress. The molecules might even act as a kind of mild toxin that nudges the body to grow highly stronger. Krikorian wanted to know whether any of it can be applied to people or not and thus enlisted nine adults who were on average, in their mid 70s.

In the start, each participant took a series of learning and memory testing and also for the next 12 weeks. They drank three glasses of blueberry juice per day between two and two and a half cups. As per the last week of the study, contestants took the memory tests again. Researchers noted that a 20 percent of the improvement in the tests after taking blueberry juice everyday has given a good result.
